Committed to Public Performances
I believe it is essential for any music teacher to perform. Music is created or re-created via sound through time, and as such, will be heard by others. Furthermore, the fact that it is ordered, and meant to be "attractive" in some way, ensures it will be deliberately listened to as opposed to existing as background noise in an elevator. Therefore, a teacher of music makers must help them to prosper in front of audiences.
As my bio shows, I am intimately acquainted in performing with audiences. I enjoy performing, and I consider it a prime means of setting goals to learn new repertoire and have new experiences. Performing helps me stay in shape as a teacher by exercising and challenging my artistic and technical chops.
If you are choosing between several teachers, please be sure the one you pick is an active performer or (if they are retired) has had an active performing career. I am retired from public performing, but play regularly at my church, Immanuel Baptist, 329 Hawley Ave, Syracuse, NY.
